What are the types of optical splitters?
Optical splitters can be divided into box splitters, tray splitters, rack splitters, wall-mounted splitters, etc. according to different application ranges. Box splitters are generally used in optical fiber distribution boxes, etc.; Tray type optical splitter is generally used in the computer room ODF optical fiber distribution frame and optical cable handover box; Rackmount splitters are mounted in a standard rack; The wall-mounted beamsplitter can be mounted on the wall.
Optical splitters can be divided into two types: melt-tapered optical splitters and planar waveguide (PLC) splitters according to different manufacturing processes, among which planar waveguide optical splitters (PLC) are widely used in FTTx and PIN. The melt tapered optical splitter is made by side welding two or more optical fibers; Planar waveguide type optical splitter (PLC) is a micro-optical component type product that uses photolithography technology to form optical waveguides on dielectric or semiconductor substrates to achieve branch distribution functions. The spectroscopic principle of these two types of optical splitters is similar, they both achieve different size branches by changing the coupling of the disappearing field between the fibers (coupling degree, coupling length) and changing the fiber fiber radius.
The optical splitter (that is, the optical splitter) is a connection device at multiple input and output ends, which can realize the coupling, branching and distribution of optical signals in the optical network system, and is the most important part of the optical fiber link. M×N is commonly used to indicate that a splitter has M input terminals and N outputs, and the spectrometers used in today's networking are generally 1×2, 1×4 splitters.
The shunt ratio of commonly used optical splitters is 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, 1:32, 1:64, and 2:N optical splitters or non-evenly splitting optical splitters can also be selected when needed. When configuring the optical splitter, the maximum utilization rate of each PON port of the equipment and the optical splitter must be considered, and the optimal optical splitter combination and suitable installation location must be selected according to the user distribution density and distribution form. There are two principles for the use of optical splitters: one is to use the first level of spectroscopy as much as possible, and the other is that the number of spectroscopic stages does not exceed the second level. There are three reasons for using primary spectroscopy: first, it can maximize PON utilization; Second, convenient fault diagnosis; Third, the system has high reliability.
Using the first-level spectroscopic method, when the optical splitter is in the resident network, the spectrometer can be installed indoors or outdoors, and the indoor installation location includes the central computer room of the community, the weak electric well in the building, the floor line box, etc. The upper optical cable of the optical splitter can come from the primary optical transfer box, the secondary optical transfer box or the optical fiber distribution box. This method is mainly suitable for the situation that the completed community is large in scale and has high user density, such as high-rise housing.
If the secondary optical splitting method is adopted, the optical splitter can be installed in the backbone layer or the user distribution optical cable layer, and when the backbone layer is used, the splitter can be installed in the primary optical transfer box, secondary optical handover box or optical fiber distribution box. This method is suitable for situations where users are scattered and new user optical cable networks.
